QUOD’s 10th Anniversary

“In the year 2023, we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the UK Quality in Organ Donation (QUOD) Biobank.

QUOD has become a unique large-scale biomedical database and research resource combining de-identified clinical, genetic and healthcare data with biological samples and tissues in organ donation and transplantation.

It is the most comprehensive and widely used UK bioresource in the field of transplantation and accessible to national and international researchers who are undertaking health-related research whether they are from an academic, charity, or commercial background.

The success of the QUOD initiative continues to be the robust and sustainable collaboration between healthcare professionals in UK academic centres and partners in NHS Blood and Transplant. To date, the biobank includes more than 135,000 samples with integrated healthcare data from more than 7,000 donors and matching recipients.

QUOD continues to advance research by enabling better insight in diagnostic assessment, management, and treatment of acute or chronic injury of transplantable organs as well as understanding of chronic diseases leading to end-stage-disease by using state-of-the-art technologies as well as innovative platforms.

We hope that by further enhancing its visibility and attracting more dedicated funding, the QUOD programme may increase its support and facilitate even more exciting research benefitting patients in the forthcoming years.”
