The Laboratory

The QUOD tissue processing laboratory at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, comprising a tissue processing machine, an embedding centre, two microtomes, a microscope and a tissue slide staining facility, is now fully operative allowing for the in-house processing of tissues collected, and the preparation for distribution of samples to research projects approved by the National QUOD Consortium.

Thanks to the steadily increasing number of donors, the QUOD Biobank currently consists of a substantial number of samples collected: over 40,000 donor blood samples which have been aliquoted into 190,000 0.5ml tubes, 27,000 tissue samples and 9,500 urine samples, for a total of over 77,500 samples.
